Sheet Music Cover Illustrations (1) - Senoo Sheet Music

★★★ During the Taisho period, when Yumeji was active, popular songs began to be sung and phonographs began to spread. In addition, the entertainment unique to this period, called "Asakusa Opera," became popular, and at the same time, sheet music was published one after another as a way for the masses to become familiar with music.

Yumeji drew many cover illustrations for the sheet music series "Senooo Sheet Music," which is representative of the Taisho period. The sheet music also includes foreign songs, and Yumeji responded by frequently featuring foreign, especially Western European girls on the cover illustrations, coordinating them with stylish fashion and drawing them attractively. In addition, some of the designs use continuous patterns while taking into consideration the color tone, and are full of the taste of sophisticated chiyogami paper.

Yumeji also left behind designs for "Children's Song Sheet Music." In the mid-Taisho period, the "Children's Song Movement" occurred, and this trend spread not only to music but also to painting, and modern-style "children's paintings" also became popular. Yumeji also decorated his "children's song scores" with bright colors and cute designs for children.
