Yumeji's Kawaii 005 (半襟 Half collars)

あふれる多彩な半襟図案

半襟（はんえり）は、着物の下に着る長襦袢（ながじゅばん）の襟に掛ける布のことで、汚れを防ぐのと同時に装飾を目的としています。着物の装いにおいて、半襟はおしゃれのポイントとして重要視されていました。当時の着物事情に詳しい近藤富江（こんどうとみえ）氏は「色彩豊かで、ことに意表をつく刺繍やモダンなデザインが好まれた。（中略）年齢や自分の好みを反映させるものは半襟でなくてはならなかった」（近藤富江・編「大正のきもの」より）と、現代とは異なる半襟への思いを文章に残しました。

夢二が描き残した「手製半襟の図案」は、雑誌「婦人之友」の付録としてつけられ、植物模様を中心に色彩豊かなデザインが特徴です。読者の女性はこれを手本にして半襟に刺繍をし、装いを楽しみました。

★★★ Han-eri (Half collars) is a piece of cloth that is placed over the collar of the undergarment worn under a kimono, and is used to prevent dirt and to decorate the kimono. Han-eri was considered an important fashionable element in kimono wear. Kondo Tomie, who was familiar with the kimono situation at the time, wrote that "colorful, especially unexpected embroidery and modern designs were popular. (Omitted) Han-eri had to reflect one's age and personal taste" ("Kimono of the Taisho Period", edited by Kondo Tomie). Yumeji's "Designs for Handmade Han-eri" was included as an appendix to the magazine "Fujin no Tomo (Friend of Women)", and features colorful designs with mainly plant motifs. Female readers followed these examples to embroider their own han-eri and enjoyed dressing up.
